Psalm 91:15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
I do believe many Christians do not pray because they are uncertain of the results. Will God do this for me? Will He answer me? He is too busy for my problem. Many times they do not even think of praying until they have exhausted all of their own efforts. 2 Cor 1:20 tells us, “All the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” Do you know that every promise is YES? Do you know He will answer you? Do you know you are in Him?
1 John 5:14 -15 tells us this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. Jesus tells us in John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
There is a recurring theme here; praying the will of God. Faith begins when we know the will of God. When you really come to know God’s plan of salvation for you, faith comes, if you decide to receive it, salvation comes. Every promises in the bible is received the same way. Believe it, decide to receive it, then speak it.
James 4:2-3 lets us know why many people do not receive from God. First, they do not receive because they do not even ask. Secondly, when they do ask, they ask amiss, that they may spend it on their pleasures. This type of asking is not in line with the will of God. For example, “Lord, I need a million dollars (so I will never need to depend on You for money again).” God wants us to know He is our total source, whether we are full or whether we are in need, He is our source. Prayer is just daily conversation with God, “Give us this day, our daily bread.”
Heb 13:5 tells us to “let our conduct be without covetousness; being content with such things as you have.” For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Covetousness comes from not knowing God is with us always, from not knowing He will take care of us. True prosperity is knowing God has supplied all that we need for every situation. Covetousness wants to see tomorrows needs met also. The covetous person does not see they have something to give or share, they just see more for me and and my future needs. Psalm 34:10 tells us they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.
I love the next part of Psalm 91:15, I will be with him in trouble. A couple of years ago, my husband and I came out of a restaurant, and our car had a flat tire. We decided to drive about quarter of a mile to a place where we could put air in the tire and then drive across the street to a tire dealership to get the tire fixed or replaced. As soon as we pulled up to the air service, a car pulled up next to us and the passenger said, “We’re here to change your tire.” After the tire was changed and we were on our way, the Lord spoke so clearly to my heart, “I want you to know that I always know right where you are.”
Yes, a tire change may not seems like much trouble, but how gently and how lovingly did the Lord show His love for us in our trouble. An assurance dropped in my heart even deeper than before that He is always with us. It’s the victory in the little things that prepare us for whatever may be coming our way.
Psalm 91 is truly a psalm of deliverance, here in verse 15, the Lord mentions once again, I will deliver him. The story of the three Hebrew children that were delivered from the fiery furnace comes to mind. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego had refused to bow to the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had made. Not only were they thrown into the fire, the furnace was made seven times hotter than usual. The fire was so hot it killed those who were commanded to tie them up and throw them into the furnace. After the three young Hebrew men were thrown into the fire, the king jumped up in astonishment and said, “Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!” Praise God, He never leaves us nor forsakes us.
The last part of verse 15, declares not only will he deliver us, but He will also honor us. Wow, think of it, God Almighty, the Creator of the universe has chosen to honor us. When we honor the Lord by setting our love upon Him, making Him first in our life, He honors us.
There is no greater honor than to be in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7 tells us, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Now that is a place of honor, being seated in heaven with Christ Jesus.
Amen! Lord, let it be done unto me according to Your word.
